Brent sitting up

Brent has hit another big milestone, he has started to sit up. He is still wobbly but he gets better everyday! He is still obsessed with his toes.

First time in the swing

We went to Jackson Ranney's first birthday party today and Brent was able to try out the swings for the first time. He really liked it!

Busy Brent

These have been a couple of very busy weeks for Brent. We started off the month by celebrating Grandpa Steve's birthday with Grandma Patti, Uncle Drew, Dad, Marilyn & Brent Creer. This was the first time Brent met his namesake so it was very special for us.

Then Dad had to take a work trip for 2 nights & 3 days. We facetimed but Brent & Bowzer were very confused about Dad being on a small screen. Olive didn't get it, as usual.

Mom & Dad had their first date sans Brent. It was to Eric Novak & Alissa's wedding at Clos La Chance, we had a fantastic time! Grandma Patti took care of Brent, she reports that he was perfect.

Brent went to his second Giants game. Terrible game, they lost 0 to 9 to the Cincinnati Reds but Brent was on his very best behavior.

Brent was lucky enough to meet cousin Lindsay & Bob for dinner in SF. He did very well considering it was a loud and hot restaurant that doesn't cater to babies. He even gave Linds a few smiles.

Mom had a girls night out with mom group friends. Brent was very good for dad & went to sleep like a champ.

This past weekend we stayed at Rod, Sheila, & Coopers house in Sacramento. We went to the pumpkin patch and Willie, Jamie & Carter joined us. So cute to finally see the little boys all together. We also went to another wedding - Steve Tankersley & Heather Jones. Brent did a good job of eating & sleeping during it all.

On Sunday we had brunch with my godmother Barbara Tigert and her husband Dave.

We decided the weekend wasn't busy enough so last night we went to Game 1 of the NLCS, Giants vs. Cardinals (Brents third game). It was a decent game even though the Giants lost. We watched the game inside on club level. Brent lost his mind when the Giants were down 6 - 0 then eventually stopped screaming when they came back 4-6. Not the most fun for Brent's mama.

Brent is 4 months old today. I love this age, he's so darn cute! He getting to be quite the talker. He is very interested in the world around him. He's drooling all the time, we go through 3 bibs a day. He is eating a ton, will easily go through 20 oz of milk in 4 hours. He gives Dad big smiles when he comes home from work. He also really likes to play with his toys, it's much easier to keep him calm in the car now! His latest activity is the jumper seat.

Today he's a little under the weather. Seems congested & having poop issues. We're already seeing the doctor tomorrow though so I'm not too concerned. Not surprised given all of the traveling we've been doing. He just wants to sleep on mama today, not so interested in eating.

Some sad news this month... Brent's great-grandma Marilyn Davis and great-uncle Robert Phillips both died on 10/7/12. Brent didn't get to meet either of them but they saw pictures of Brent before they died. We will miss both of them very much!!

P.s. I'll upload more photos once the baby isn't sleeping on me.

Rolling over milestone

Brent started rolling over from his back to his tummy a week ago. He did it in front of everyone at baby boot camp. We stopped swaddling since we don't want him to get stuck face down but that has made sleeping more difficult. He's had some great nights with 10-12 hours of sleep but others where he's waken several times at night.

Perfect sleeper @ 13.5 weeks

The intent of this post is not to brag, just to document a miracle that I'm sure is an anomaly. Brent went to sleep last night at 8:45, in his crib, without crying. He woke up this morning at 8:50, without crying. I only knew he was awake because he was talking. Then, when I went to get him, he had a huge smile on his face! On top of that, his diaper didn't leak (we started cloth diapers and they don't fit him the best yet)! Yay, yay, yay!!!

12 weeks old!

Brent was 12 weeks old last Friday. He weighed 14 lbs today, I knew he was getting bigger but didn't think he'd be that big! Hard to believe he's almost doubled his weight.

Last Friday we moved him from his bassinet to his crib. I cried when I didn't see the little guy next to my side of the bed but HE did really well. He slept 11 pm - 8 am Fri night,10 pm - 7 am Sat night 9-11 am on Sun, 9:30-3:30 Sunday night then 4-9 am on Monday morning. Apparently last night he started catching on to us and would not go to sleep in his crib. We resorted to putting him in the swing to put him to sleep, then transferred him to the crib. He eventually went to sleep and then woke up at 3:30 to eat. I found him face down in the crib, in his swaddle, so I guess he had been busy learning how to turn over. Ryan was super dad and got him back to sleep when he started crying around 5 am. We will see what happens tonight, I hope he goes back to being a good sleeper!

Brent's big weekend

Brent was a very busy guy this weekend. My best friend Courtney married Andre in San Francisco and Brent attended all of the festivities. This was not easy to pull off but with a lot of planning (and pumping!), it was a success. Brent and I started off Friday by going to the hair salon to get my hair blown out. He was a very good boy, just sat in my lap and took it all in.

We got into San Francisco Friday afternoon and attended the rehearsal at Flood Mansion, happy hour at Kell's (dive bar), and the rehearsal dinner at Bocce. Brent was completely over-stimulated by the time we arrived at the rehearsal dinner. Apparently his eyes started working this week so he can see much further and looking at the world can drive a little boy crazy. Ryan was really great during dinner, he stepped away with the screaming guy so I could eat and somewhat enjoy myself. He finally stopped crying at about 9:30 pm and we headed to the hotel. Checking into the hotel was hilarious. Friday night, lobby full of people, and we're dropping baby gear, like a bathtub, left and right in the lobby.

Saturday was full of wedding festivities. I left Ryan and Brent armed with bottles in the hotel room and had a fantastic time celebrating with the bride, Courtney, and the other bridesmaids. Brent was asked to be the ring bearer and amazingly he actually made it down the aisle without crying. We brought Brent's swing with us to the wedding, and it saved us. The little guy slept for four hours during the reception! Such a gift. Ryan and Grandma checked on him every 10 minutes. Eventually he woke up but was pretty happy in the Bjorn with Ryan. We left the party at about 10:30. Grandpa volunteered (or was volunteered) to babysit so the rest of us headed to the after party at the top of the Marriott. I'm not sure about everyone else but I had a really great time and was so thankful to my family, especially Ryan, for taking over the baby responsibilities.

Sunday we went to lunch at Courtney's parent's house and indulged ourselves in burritos and margaritas.

Monday was Brent's first Giants game. He did really well and was the cutest little fan I've ever seen. We treated ourselves to club level tickets, I might be spoiled for good now.

Next weekend is going to be so boring in comparison!

Life as a stay at home mom

I'm really enjoying my time at home. Brent is 9 weeks now, I can hardly believe it. We're staying very busy, no chance of being bored. We have our challenging moments, like Brent screaming, for no reason, for the entire drive from Redwood City to Morgan Hill but all it takes for him to smile to make everything better. We love seeing his personality (and smile) develop.

He's eating every 2 - 3 hours and taking 2 or 3 naps during the day. We started a bedtime routine which has helped keep me more sane. I feed him at about 5:00 everyday, we take the dogs on a walk, and I feed him again. Then he gets a bath, reading time, I feed him again, we swaddle him, and then rock him to sleep. Then once he's in his bassinet, I wake him up a little bit so he learns to fall asleep on his own. I also use white noise all night - it works so well. Our routine is working pretty well, he is sleeping from about 9 pm -4 am, then 5 am -8am.

We're keeping busy with walking, hiking with friends, attending 2 moms groups (plus lunches), and today we started Baby Boot Camp. After all that, plus eating, and grocery shopping, and starting our routine at 5:00, there isn't much extra time.

We're off to San Diego in the morning for Brent's cousin Dylan's first birthday!

Brent excited to go grocery shopping

Today we went to the grocery store after lunch with our moms group friends. He was so fussy all during lunch and then so happy at Whole Foods!

p.s. He weighed 11 lbs 14 oz today.

Happy Baby!

Brent had a fantastic time in Tahoe last week. We went on lots of walks, went to the beach every afternoon, and went out to dinner 5 times. We realized how much he loves his swing as we didn't bring it with us. He's still eating about every 3 hours and will sleep in 4 or 5 hour stretches. He had his first real bath in Tahoe and enjoyed it a lot more than I thought he would. Thanks to Grandma and Dad, I was able to really enjoy myself. Not exactly the days of lounging on the beach all day and reading several books, but still a great time. At least there's no chance for sunburn!

Brent decided on Thursday that he would step up his crying. It was the first time he cried during dinner and wasn't a happy camper, even after more dinner than he usually has. I think I figured out that it's because he needs a routine at night. I went to a mothers support group at Kaiser on Tuesday and it inspired me to start a regular bedtime routine. So far, it's working, no hysterical crying at night. We go on a walk with the dogs, I feed him around 7:30, then have bath time, put on pjs, swaddle, read for 20 mins, and he's out by 9. He woke up at 1am, 4am and 8 am this morning but no crying so I think it's working. Next step is to make sure we eat dinner before we walk which is hard since Ryan doesn't get home until after 6.

On Tuesday he weighed 10 lbs 4 oz. He's getting big! He's also smiling and "talking" a lot more. The middle of the night time isn't as bad when there's a cute little guy talking to you! So far his smiles are random but I can any day they will be deliberate. We're starting to think about our approach to transitioning him to his crib at night (he's in a bassinet next to me now). It won't be for a few weeks but doesn't hurt to plan (we're engineers, have to have a plan).

Thanks to Grandma, I'm getting my hair done today so Ill look halfway decent for Courts shower & wedding. Thank goodness for Grandmas!

We're looking forward to cousin Dylan's 1st birthday party in San Diego in 2 weeks then Courtney's wedding in a month. Both will be adventures with Brent!

Here's a few pics from this morning with the happy guy...

One Month Old!

Brentley turned one month old yesterday!

Today is the start of our second week home without Ryan. It's amazing how quickly the days fly by and generally all we do is eat, shower, change diapers, and nap. I usually have about 2 hours to be productive in the afternoon. Last week I spent the time going to a mom's support group at Kaiser, the farmer's market, Target, and the grocery store. Not too exciting but it's a whole new adventure with Brent and the stroller in tow. Brent is eating very well, last week Tuesday (7/10) he was 8 lbs 6 ozs. He's still eating every 3 hours except at night he'll sometimes go 5 hours which is much appreciated! He's getting much more vocal, his happy baby sounds are so cute! I've started noticing real tears when he's crying, not looking forward to when they are streaming down his face.

Uncle John and Aunt Terri visited on Saturday on their way to Tahoe. He practically slept through their entire visit but I guess that's better than a crying baby!

Here's some pictures from our one month photo session and from John & Terri's visit. He's already making his teddy bear look smaller compared to his birthday!

Brent's 4th of July week

Brent had a big week! Lots of firsts for the little guy.

First, his Uncle Justin, Aunt Adri, and Cousin Dylan came to visit from San Diego. He has a lot of growing to do to keep up with Dylan! (Dylan is 11 mos.)

Dad gave Brent his first bottle...

Went wine tasting at Clos LaChance in Morgan Hill...

Took some nice family pictures (I'm 3 weeks old!)...

And went to the ranch (it was really hot)!

Brent is a very good baby. He eats about every 3 hours but sometimes takes naps up to 5 hours. He's staying awake for longer stretches and is very happy being held or hanging out in his vibrating chair or swing. He cries when we're changing his diaper or is hungry but is pretty easy to calm down. He does like to eat at 3 am (which is not his mom's favorite time to be awake) but that's about as bad as it gets. He's growing every day, he's probably close to 8 lbs and is 21 inches long.

Ryan is going back to work tomorrow - he's going to have quite the welcoming home party every night!
